The 6th International Conference on ThermoMechanical Processing (TMP2022), organized by The Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) and Northeastern University (NEU), was successfully held on September 6-8, 2022 in Shenyang, China. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, this event was on-site communication combined with on-line presentation (by zoom meeting). This is the first time that TMP conference has been held in China.

Previous TMP conferences were held in London (UK,2000), Liege (Belgium,2004), Padua (Italy, 2008), Sheffield (UK,2012) and Milan (Italy, 2016). TMP conferences are usually held every 4 years, and this TMP conference was originally planned in 2020. However, it was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. TMP 2022 follows the tradition of TMP conference series to provide a forum for the in-depth discussion of recent advances in the field of thermomechanical processing.

With more than four years preparations, 361 abstracts from 19 countries were received totally, 125 of which were published in the conference proceedings after peer-reviewed by the technical committee. Technical program of TMP2022 covered the following fields: (1) Flat Product and Processing, (2) Long Product and Processing, (3) Microstructure and Properties of Steels, (4) Service Performance of Metallic Materials, (5) Non-ferrous Alloys and Processing, (6) Digitalization and Intelligent Manufacturing, (7) Modelling and Simulation of Metallic Materials. 10 plenary lectures, 75 keynote presentations, 22 invited presentation, 27 contributed presentations and 43 poster presentations were arranged at TMP2022. After reviewed by the technical committee, the winners of online poster award for young scientist were Jiayun Zhang (Northeastern University, China), Yanhui Wang (Northeastern University, China), Qifan Zhang (Jiangsu University, China), Yuefeng Chen (CNPC Tubular Goods Research Institute, China) and Mohammad Navazani (Deakin University, Australia).

The main goal of TMP2022 was to bring together leading researchers to share their research results and experiences from academia and industries on all aspects of thermomechanical processing. The feedback from the delegates were positive, most of them have benefited much from their participation in this conference.

This conference was co-organized by The State Laboratory of Rolling and Automation (RAL), supported by CBMM | Niobium, co-sponsored by ABM (Brazil), AIM (Italy), AIST (USA), Czech Metallurgical Society, VDEh (Germany), ASMET (Austria), IIM (India), ISIJ (Japan), KIM (Korea) and Nfsoc (China). The next TMP Conference will be organized by ASMET in Austria in 2025.
