The 8th International Conference on High Strength Low Alloy Steels (HSLA Steels 2022), organized by The Chinese Society for Metals (CSM), was successfully held on November 9-11, 2022 in China. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, this event was on-site communication combined with on-line presentation (by zoom meeting).

Previous HSLA Steels Conferences were held in Beijing (1985, 1990, 1995, 2011), Xi’an (2000), Sanya (2005) and Hangzhou (2015) since 1985 and grown into the leading platform for scientific and technological exchange in high strength low alloy steels. The 8th HSLA Steels Conference was originally planned in 2020. However, it was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. HSLA Steels 2022 follows the tradition to provide a forum for the in-depth discussion of recent advances in the fields of HSLA steels.

With more than four years preparations, 180 abstracts from 14 countries were received totally, 89 of which were published in the conference proceedings after peer-reviewed by the technical committee. Technical program of HSLA Steels 2022 covered the following fields: (1) Physical Metallurgy, (2) Products for Automotive, Infrastructure and Maritime Industry, (3) Performance, Safety and Application, (4) Process Technologies for High Quality Products. 10 plenary lectures, 50 invited presentations, 51 contributed presentations and 16 poster presentations were arranged at HSLA Steels 2022.

During HSLA Steels 2022, the tremendous progress of high strength low alloy steels in the past years was reviewed; the latest scientific and technological progress was exchanged. The feedback from the delegates were positive, most of them have benefited much from their participation in this conference.

This conference was co-organized by ANSTEEL Group and supported by CBMM | Niobium, Vanadium Application Technology Promotion Center, CISRI, Vanitec Ltd. and Nanjing Iron & Steel Co., Ltd.. The next PTM Conference will be held in China in 2025.
