The 9th Asia Steel International Conference (Asia Steel 2024) & 2024 International Symposium on Hydrogen Metallurgy (ISHM2024) were successfully held on September 4-7, 2024 in Changsha, China.  Asia Steel 2024 was organized by The Chinese Society for Metals (CSM), The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan (ISIJ) and The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (KIM⁺). ISHM2024 was organized by The Chinese Society for Metals and HBIS Group.

With more than three year preparations, 607 abstracts from 24 countries were received totally, 310 of which were published in the extended abstract proceedings after peer-reviewed by the technical committee. Technical program of Asia Steel 2024 & ISHM2024 covered the following fields: (1) fundamentals of steels, (2) Ironmaking and related technologies, (3) hydrogen metallurgy technologies, (4) steelmaking and continuous casting, (5) rolling and heat treatment, (6) steel products and application, (7) digitization and intelligence of process, (8) resources and environment, (9) analysis and characterization. 6 plenary lectures, 151 keynote presentations, 263 contributed presentations and 166 poster presentations were arranged at this events. 

Prof. Zhiling Tian, the Executive Vice President of CSM, chaired the conference. Mr. Haideng Zhang of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China, Prof. Xiaogang Zhang of CSM and Mr. Zhiqiang Cao of The People’s Government of Hunan Province gave the opening speech of the conference.

In this conference, the CSM Fellow Award Ceremony has been held during the plenary session of Asia Steel 2024. An Honorary Fellowship of CSM recognizes experts who have provided significant support to CSM and made outstanding contributions to academia and industry in the field of materials science and technology of steels. The award was nominated by the President or Vice President of CSM and has been approved by a committee vote.

During the conference, more than 1200 experts from 19 countries and regions attended the meeting, and 67 international well-known related enterprises joined the exhibitions of the conference. After the meeting, the conference participants were organized to visit Xiangtan Steel of Hunan Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd..

The main goal of Asia Steel 2024 & ISHM2024 was to bring together leading researchers to share their research results and experiences from academia and industries on all aspects of steel industry. The feedback from the delegates were positive, most of them have benefited much from their participation in this conference.
